Object of the Month - 2019 November

Every month the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World highlights one of the many objects that are part of the collection shown in our permanent exhibition. Come and discover the object of the month and find out more about our history.

The pickaxe was used to remove root suckers around the roots of the vine and excess buds to strengthen the plant. This instrument is part of the exhibition set which characterize the agricultural tools that shaped the Douro region. It’s on display in the first area of the permanent exhibition in the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World, where we explain how Portugal’s political and economic environment in the mid-18th century helped implement Real Companhia Velha, in 1756.
