Every month the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World highlights one of the many objects that are part of the collection shown in our permanent exhibition. Come and discover the object of the month and find out more about our history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the month of June, the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World has selected a\nnew photograph from the collection of Domingos Alv\u00e3o, currently on display in the seventh\nsection of our permanent exhibition. This photographer from Porto produced significant work\ndocumenting every aspect of wine production in the Alto Douro Wine Region, ranging from\nthe various production stages to winemaking processes in local factories and wineries, while\nalso highlighting the importance of the region's warehouses and cellars used for the Port\nwine aging process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photograph in question captures the fa\u00e7ade of the \u201cCasa da Companhia\u201d (Company\nHouse) in R\u00e9gua, the building that today houses the Douro Museum. Designed in the second\nhalf of the 18th century in the Pombaline style, this was one of the company's most\nimportant properties; it served multiple functions - including administration, production, and\nwinemaking - it also housed a court and provided temporary accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
