Museu-Enoteca 17.56 is a venue where culture and gastronomy come together to create a unique space in the city of Vila Nova de Gaia. The renovated building housing this new cultural space used to be the cellars and head office of Real Companhia Velha between 1961 and 1972, before it moved to its current address.
This building has an area of 3.000 sq. m. spread over two floors. On the ground floor visitors can access the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World. The permanent exhibition portraits the history of Real Companhia Velha, the Pombaline demarcation and its connection with Port Wine. This space, with about 438 sq.m., highlights the Company’s valuable collection, highlighted by interactive supports and various multimedia devices.
The Museum’s reception area where some objects from the collection of Real Companhia Velha are on display, also houses the ticket office, a cloakroom, a florist and the Museum ́s wine shop. Here, visitors have a wide variety of Real Companhia Velha wines to choose from. On this floor, there is also the tasting area which serves as a multipurpose space, for the Museum’s educational activities.
The Enoteca is located on the first floor. It is a privileged space offering visitors exceptional views, over Porto’s riverside. In addition to the sophisticated restaurant there is also a wine bar, a cigar club and a fromagerie. The emphasis here is on wine, which can be selected from the vast wine list offering more than 500 wine references.
