Object of the Month - January 2021
Every month, the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World highlights one of the objects on display at our permanent exhibition. Discover the object of the month and find out more about our history.
In the month we celebrate the Port wine, we select an example from our collection of stencil masks displayed in the sixth area of the permanent exhibition at the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World. Through these objects we get to know not only some of the locations where Real Companhia Velha exported the wine produced in the Upper Douro region, but also its exceptional characteristics and specificities.
As we mentioned before, stencil masks were used to mark boxes for exportation, as well as to mark barrels where wine produced in the Douro rested. These are relevant elements for perceiving the graphic evolution of the brand, as well as its commercial expansion around the world. In this case, the chosen stencil mask features an image of a crown, one of the main symbols of Real Companhia Velha, as a former majestic company.
