Object of the Month - July 2021

Every month, the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World highlights one of the objects on display at our permanent exhibition. Discover the object of the month and find out more about our history.

This missal is distinguished by its ornamented cover with the coat of arms of the Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro, which highlights the figure of St. Marta. Since this is the month in which this divine figure is celebrated, we took this opportunity to select this piece for the month of July 2021, at the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World.

The selected missal was produced by Tipografia Régia, in the early 19th century. This copy comes from the company’s headquarters, and was certainly the missal used in the liturgical celebrations of the Real Companhia Velha. This object is part of the exhibition speech in the last area of the permanent exhibition at the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World, in which we highlight the graphic identity of this former chartered Company.
