Object of the Month - 2020 March

Every month the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World highlights one of the many objects that are part of the collection shown in our permanent exhibition. Come and discover the object of the month and find out more about our history.

This stencil mask was a mold used by the Company to mark boxes and kites for the exportation of wine to Amsterdam. Since 1780, the Port wine trade carried out in Northern Europe also included the Port of Amsterdam. Therefore, even today, the Netherlands remains a prominent market in this area.

The extensive set of stencils on display in the sixth exhibition part of the Museum of the Oldest Appellation in the World symbolizes and demonstrates, together with the world map, the expansion and commercial range of Real Companhia Velha throughout the World.
